The way to a man’s heart

The way to a man's heart may be through his stomach, but the way to this man's heart is through his dog.

Although I do make gentle fun of Kevin for being so goofy about dogs, it's really great for there to be something so simple that makes him so happy. Besides, knowing he likes dogs so much has made me like them much more than I did before. Friday afternoon I made the brief aquaintance of two very friendly, bouncy, enthusiastic pugs, and I enjoyed both greeting them and telling Kevin about them. On Saturday I found a site devoted to dog photos, and I took pleasure in seeing pictures that I knew he would like particularly.

Kevin is not, in general, easier to please than anyone else; it's just that there's this one sure-fire thing that can be relied on to make him grin. Finding the perfect thing is just hard enough to make it challenging and just easy enough that opportunities are fairly frequent. This sort of thing has made me realize how happy it makes me to do things for other people, randomly, for no reason at all but that it brings a smile to someone's face.
