It's a terrible thing that I can't even look at a catalog record now without seeing errors everywhere. The title and statement of responsibility
field of the bib record for An Edward Lear Alphabet Book in the KCLS catalog is wrong. That's a descriptive field, which means that all the words in it should come directly from the document itself, specifically the title page for monographs. The KCLS catalog says:
An Edward Lear alphabet / by Edward Lear ; pictures by Vladimir Radunsky.
It should be:
An Edward Lear alphabet / made up and colored by Vladimir Radunsky.
I even looked it up in AACR2. It's Rule 1.1F1: Transcribe statements of responsibility appearing prominently in the item in the form in which they appear there.
1.1F2 also says, Do not include in the title and statement of responsibility area statements of responsibility that do not appear prominently in the item. If such a statement is necessary, give it in a note.
I am such a sad geek.
[Even geekier: I looked it up in OCLC WorldCat, and it's wrong there too.]
