I've been thinking for a little while about getting a second bachelor's degree in computer science. I've decided that I really want my career to be in library systems, not only because techies make more money than reference librarians but because that's really what I'm interested in. Also, I've been watching job postings lately, and [...]

Moving away
Today was, again, boring. This trip is much like my August visit, with the exception that it's 8 days long and boring rather than 2 days long and action-packed. I'm missing Jeff a lot more than I thought I would, and since my friends are now rather dispersed, there's not a lot for me to [...]

Le Guin, The Left Hand of Darkness
The Left Hand of Darkness is a winner of the Hugo and Nebula awards and Le Guin's if-you-don't-read-anything-else-you-must-read-this. In her introduction she calls the book a thought-experiment, and I find that a good description. The story is about a world where the human inhabitants are completely androgynous and about the effects that such a physiology [...]

Grandmother
My grandmother is still hanging on and as healthy as can be expected, but every time I see her, she knows me less. Last June, when I took Jeff to meet her, she knew my face but not who I was. In August, at Allison's wedding, I don't know if she would have known me, [...]

Merry Christmas
Ten days later, it’s Christmas, everyone else is asleep and I really should be too, and I’m finally getting around to blogging again.

Resumed
This morning, life is back to the usual routine, after having been stretched and squished in sundry ways during the last few weeks. You see, I worked 20 hours a week during November, which was nice because of money but meant that I spent only the bare minimum of time on schoolwork. (Not good.)

Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving was extremely pleasant; it would have been much better if I hadn't been so brain-dead and frazzled about Everything. I didn't fly to Texas for the weekend, thank heavens. Wednesday I had neither work nor class but spent the day at UW working on various projects, including one which was due Saturday. Unfortunately [...]

The hell with this
Due to severe winds in the area, I assume (though I didn't feel any of them), the power went out three times while I was at work today. The last time, I figured the gods were against us, so I went home and took a 3-hour nap.

Something’s wrong with me
This morning one of Lori's books had a post-it note on it, so the title looked like De...ve Pa...ng. I read that as Degenerative Parenting. (It's really Decorative Painting.) Yes, I know I haven't written for ages. I haven't had any time! It's all the same stuff as always, anyway, except for Thanksgiving, about which I [...]
