You know, sometimes if you start actually thinking about everyday things, they start to look really strange. As Maggie put it on her .plan,
yesterday i was looking at people's noses on the subway. and i realized i had never really thought about noses. i mean you see them, and then you don't see them, you know? because there is usually some sort of harmony with the rest of the face, so that they aren't noticeable. but if you think about it, noses are just plain *weird*.
I notice this with words more than anything else. Of course I can't think of any examples right now, because everything looks normal in my present mood, but I know exactly what she means. Sometimes I just look at a perfectly ordinary word, and I think, What a strange-looking word that is.
Eventually it goes away again, but for that moment, I'm looking at that bit of the universe with new eyes.
We all need a bit of wonder in our lives, and I guess that's where mine comes from. Thank you, Maggie, for sharing that experience with me.
