Jeff and I never did manage to go hiking on Friday, but last weekend was great anyway. In fact, the whole week was great. Jeff accompanied me to work on Wednesday afternoon, which was pretty uninteresting. Thursday I tried to get us organized enough to get everything done and have a good night's sleep before [...]

Pattou, East
I'm a sucker for fairy tales, and when Angie Benedetti (KCLS youth selector) got up in front of my Young Adult Materials class last quarter and told us about a retelling of East of the Sun, West of the Moon called East, I was hooked. Edith Pattou has done an excellent job of bringing this [...]

Recovery
Winter quarter is over, and I'm starting to feel human again. I am grateful that I have two weeks of effective vacation between quarters, because if I didn't, I would be quite insane. As it is, I am merely eccentric. Or maybe not. I probably don't have enough money to be eccentric.

What classic movie or famous leader are you?
What Classic Movie Are You? What Famous Leader Are You? The strangest thing about these quizzes, I think, is that whoever wrote them seems to think that anyone might take them seriously.

Folk Fiction
Much as I hate my Young Adult Materials class, I'm pretty proud of the web poster that I created. It's on the theme of Folk Fiction, as is my WebQuest. (Sorry for not linking to the WebQuest, but I've restricted access because I use two images that belongs to someone else and for which I [...]

On the bus
Today on the bus, Jeff and I were confronted by the spectacle of a drag queen (in a hot pink dress and sporting a huge beer belly) complaining loudly about weird people on the bus. Performance art?

Crossing my fingers
This morning I emailed my resume and cover letter for a job I really want at SPL. The Systems Analyst for Library Applications/Databases position is almost exactly what I'm already doing, except full time and a little more per hour. I think it couldn't be better tailored for me right now, and I will be [...]

A letter to the King County executive
Rev. Sims, I am writing to you concerning the recent acts of civil disobedience around the nation by elected officials. I am an undergraduate studying physics at the University of Washington. I'm originally from Olympia, and I am a heterosexual male. I'm also writing on behalf of my girlfriend who will be graduating this spring [...]
