Crossing my fingers

This morning I emailed my resume and cover letter for a job I really want at SPL. The Systems Analyst for Library Applications/Databases position is almost exactly what I'm already doing, except full time and a little more per hour. I think it couldn't be better tailored for me right now, and I will be very disappointed if I don't get it.

I've got my references lined up and sent them the job description as well as my resume and cover letter. When I asked Kathy if she would be a reference, she said both Yes, of course! and Please don't leave me! (She has a significant conflict of interest.)

I'm lucky that I have no shortage of good references. In fact, I've not generally found myself lacking, ever since I worked at the Language Resource Center at Mount Holyoke. Previous employer plus professors always sufficed. I had a little bit of difficulty when I changed discipline and geographical region in coming to the iSchool, because all my references were in Massachusetts, but a few months in LIS gave me the academic references I needed. I took all this for granted, but I think I have been spoiled by my college education; while any of my professors at MHC could have testified to my intelligence and character, most of Jeff's professors know him only by sight.
