According to Kathy, today is the one-year anniversary of KCLS hiring me. This is in spite of the fact that I didn't find out that they had offered me the job until a week later. Some dates:
- Friday, March 28: application deadline
- Friday, April 4: interview
- Wednesday, April 16: Notification and acceptance of job offer
- Tuesday, April 22: First day at work
It's scary how much my job hunt now is mirroring that one. If I get the SPL job, I'll have been working at KCLS for almost exactly a year.
In anticipation of my possibly impending departure, Kathy and I sat down yesterday and had a talk about what I need to do to tie up loose ends before I leave. It turns out that my tasks fall into three categories; one set of things is going to be partitioned between various members of ITS (not just Kathy), another set doesn't need to be touched because those things are already functioning independently, and the last set just isn't going to get done. It's sort of depressing to be so divisible and quantifiable, but it's inevitable. The proof of my unique contribution to the system is the amount of stuff in the last two categories.
