Dismal DSL

Tue, 8 Jun 2004

I just tested my DSL speed, and I got results ranging from 50K to 70K. Admittedly that test doesn't claim to be perfectly accurate, but that's pathetic. I'm supposed to be on high-speed internet here, folks.

So I'm very happy that Jeff and I are getting a Real ISP Real Soon Now. It's not perfectly finalized yet, but I called Qwest today and was told that I could get DSL without phone service on the same line, and they're going to call back tomorrow to set it up. Fine by me; I've been waiting long enough already. I can wait one more measly day.

While I was at it, I arranged to switch Jeff and myself onto a joint plan where we'll be paying approximately the same amount per month as we are now, but we'll have unlimited calls between our phones (and unlimited nights and weekends, but there's little practical difference for us between unlimited and practically unimited). Jeff's switching away from Sprint (whom he hates), keeping his same number, and getting a free new phone. And since the phones are free, I'll be getting one too! The phones will be delivered Friday afternoon. Whee!

DSL is going to be a little slower, but that's okay because I'm going to be busy with my parents, who are visiting for my graduation. I'm not going to have time to sit around moping about AOL. Too bad I never got penggy working, but it wasn't worth it anyway.

Onward ho!
