Laura, Kathy, and the ice cream cake

This morning I was supposed to have a status review meeting with Kathy, but it turned out to be a surprise graduation party. It wasn't actually much of a surprise since she announced it on the ITS staff list, but I don't think the fête lost anything at all by the leak. There were lots of good friends, an ice cream cake, and a big, colorful party banner. What a way to be welcomed to the profession!

Lots of people came, not just from ITS but from most of the departments in the Service Center, I think. Kathy organized the signing of a congratulatory card and the purchase of a very professional-looking day planner which I may not use immediately (since I just started using my Uncalendar last week). Jed gave an impromptu speech which imitated most graduation speeches in its abstraction and lack of meaning but which improved vastly upon them with its brevity. Susan took the lovely digital photos.

Laura, sticking her tongue out

Yes, that is me sticking my tongue out at the camera, but I didn't mean it that way. I was in the middle of laughing! Despite the tongue, it's a good photo; I look just about as happy as I feel right now.
