Today has been a day of near (or not-so-near) misses.
- 7am - Ignore alarm. Eventually get up an hour later. Mind you, I'm meeting a friend at 9am, with almost an hour-long bus commute to get there.
- 8:30am - Miss phone call from my friend. It turns out that she's going to be about 15 minutes late. She doesn't mind that I've just gotten out of the shower; it's all cool.
- 10am - Arrive at the Seattle Girls' School, where I'm helping my friend develop the school's tiny library. Spend 30 minutes sorting books and three times that reading them.
- noon - Leave SGS. Miss #14 bus by a couple of minutes. Next one is almost 10 minutes late.
- 12:40pm - Arrive downtown and attempt to catch #554 to work. Once again, I missed the last bus by just a few minutes. If previous bus hadn't been so late, I would have made it. Wait 25 minutes until the next scheduled bus.
- 1:45pm - Whirlwind tour through work. Pick up July bus pass. Scarf lunch. Reassure co-worker that I'm monitoring the support queue. Run out before I can get any more sucked in.
- 4pm - Arrive home. Discover that I left the house this morning without keys. Call Jeff, who is just heading home.
- 4pm pt. 2 - I also have a message on my voice mail from just 30 minutes before; a company I sent my resume on Tuesday evening wants to schedule a telephone screening interview. I call back and leave a message, but she's out of the office until Wednesday. The phone call to me must have been one of the last things she did before she left.
- 4:30pm - Jeff gets home. We dink around, then heat leftover beef chili for dinner. This is the last of the chili, and the sour cream has already been used up.
- 8pm - Landlords get home. I tell them I locked myself out, and they remind me that there's a keypad on the garage door. D'oh!
Far from the worst day I've ever had, of course, but I could do with a little higher success ratio.

I'm sorry you had such a bad day....
I have a question. I started reading your blog ( and have loved your photos, hiking stories, etc) when my husband was considering a job in Kent, Washington. Its now official and we're moving. My question is this.... is public transportation rather easy to use in Seattle/Puget Sound area?
Thanks
