Banned Books Week 2005 is September 24 - October 1. Celebrate by reading a banned book!
In 2003 I posted a list of the 100 most frequently challenged books (1990-2000), noting which I had read. Unfortunately, I don't believe I have read any more challenged books since then. Shame on me.
The Secret Garden Bookshop in Ballard is hosting an event for Banned Books Week:
In observance of Banned Books Week (September 25 -October 1) the Secret Garden Bookshop in downtown Ballard (2214 NW Market Street) invites you to settle into a big comfy chair and read a banned book in our front window. Take a public stand—or sit—in support of some of the hundreds of works of western literature that have been challenged or banned by American schools and libraries. For more information, or to sign up for shift in the window, stop by or call us at 789-5006.
I might just do that.
