Today I am twenty-six years old.
Jeff and I arrived at our new apartment yesterday, after two days of driving. We were less tired than we might have been, since I hired Big Strong Men both to load and unload our U-Haul. That was one of the best decisions I've made in the past year. Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy something very close.
If I didn't send you my new address, and you think you should have it, drop me an email.
The only casualties of the move were two cheap trash cans and a free duffel bag that I don't really have a use for. All three objects are still mostly usable.
We've spent the past day and a half on rearranging furniture and unpacking. Things ended up in the wrong rooms, of course, so we had to move almost everything around. This involved a sort of Chinese puzzle, since there wasn't enough space anywhere to move a lot of boxes from one room to the next. I had to move one box from the living room to the kitchen, then one box from the bedroom to the living room, lather rinse repeat. Still, the place is at least halfway habitable now.
Last night we slept on the living room floor, in sleeping bags. Tonight we have a bed.
Pictures will follow as soon as the apartment looks a little more presentable. We have no kitchen table, no dresser for me, and only one bookcase. All the cardboard boxes lying around are more than a little unattractive.
Dinner today was Ginger Beef and Broccoli, cooked in the shiny new slowcooker that Ralph and Lori gave me. It was fabulous.
This afternoon Jeff and I walked to the library and signed up for cards. I checked out one book, which I will probably not have time to read.
And with that I bid you good night.

Huh - in all my moves, the bed is always put together first, because sleeping becomes more important. But it sounds like you needed to make room for it?
alita says:
Happy Birthday! Good luck with the settling in and all.
Laurabelle says:
pjm: Exactly, there was nowhere to put the bed besides leaning against the wall. Sleeping bags were just easier.
alita: Thanks for the birthday wishes. Settling in is happening, with the usual minor excitement (e.g., where the heck did the cheese slicer go).
