Jeff brought home a DVD player on Friday. We had both been wanting a DVD player for quite a while; I even went so far as to buy a few DVDs (starting with the extra-special ninja extended 12-disk Lord of the Rings for Christmas), but we couldn't play them. We tried once with the DVD [...]

Switcheroo
I ordered a couple of books from Amazon the other day (C. S. Lewis' Out of the Silent Planet and Perelandra), and when they arrived I happily unpacked the box and organized the books on the shelf, because that is what I do with books, besides read them of course. This was Tuesday. It wasn't [...]

Earthquake!
I have just experienced my first San Francisco Bay earthquake! Magnitude 3.4 at the epicenter; quite small and brief, but the ground shook quite noticeably. I suppose it helped that I was up on my desk at the time, talking to my neighbor over the cubicle wall.

Mystery dream
Sunday morning I dreamed a mystery. It was exactly as if I were reading (or rather, living) a whodunit; I had to gather clues and figure out the murderer, which I did. Jeff was nonplussed when I told him, but I thought it was rather impressive to dream a puzzle to which I did not [...]

Car and chairs
The car went into the shop on Friday a week ago; of course the mechanic didn't find any problems. We drove it over the weekend and took it back in on Monday for some more tests. This time the mechanic tested for key-off draw and found that the car was drawing 75 milli-amps while the [...]

No juice
Jeff called my cell phone while I was on the bus coming home this evening. Guess where I’m not, he said. Where he wasn’t was at the station to catch his usual train. He was stuck at work and would be for a while. I offered to drive down to get him, and he said [...]

*kof* *kof*
Jeff got sick last weekend and continued being mildly sick through most of the week. I had a bit of a sore throat last Sunday but was fine for most of the week, until I started getting sick on Thursday and felt rather ill on Friday. I went to work anyway (and was mildly ineffective), [...]

Incredible dentistry
Today I had the most enjoyable tooth cleaning of my life. I guess that's not saying much, because dental cleanings don't tend to be much fun, but this one was. You see, I got to watch The Incredibles during the cleaning. The dentist has this sort of headset with a little TV screen and headphones [...]

Who done it
I've been reading lots of Agatha Christie mysteries lately. I listened to a bunch on CD in the spring, and then I bought a Poirot 3-in-1 in September. Now I've started checking them out from the library and am working my way through a few more. For the longest time I never had the least [...]
