Real friends

Mon, 12 Sep 2005

A couple of years ago my good friend Maggie half-suggested that we let our friendship go, because she was unhappy with how our conversations were going. I had a bad habit of jumping into all the things that I'd been doing, without letting her get a word in edgewise about herself. She felt that [...]

Me old bones

Mon, 24 Jan 2005

I just realized that the child who played the baby Jesus in the nativity play when I was five is now a sophomore (possibly a junior) in college. Age is such a relative concept.

Safe places

Sun, 16 Jan 2005

From an email I wrote my mother this morning. I could hardly stop laughing, not least because I can see myself doing exactly the same thing. Mom wrote: >I wrote: >> Did Dad give you your birthday present from me? I gave it >> to him for safekeeping -- but I wouldn't be surprised if >> he kept it [...]

On the bus

Tue, 9 Mar 2004

Today on the bus, Jeff and I were confronted by the spectacle of a drag queen (in a hot pink dress and sporting a huge beer belly) complaining loudly about weird people on the bus. Performance art?

The importance of being nice

Thu, 4 Mar 2004

Nice is an interesting word. It has many different connotations and meanings, and I’m not just talking about Agnes Nutter. Fun with housemates

Fri, 9 Jan 2004

This is a rewrite of an entry that I wrote a couple of weeks ago, one which I wrote in an attempt to digest my recent experiences with one of my housemates but which ultimately failed in that regard. According to Maggie, the entry came off as very harsh, which I partially intended. After all, [...]

Weird sh*t

Thu, 8 Jan 2004

You know, sometimes if you start actually thinking about everyday things, they start to look really strange. As Maggie put it on her .plan, yesterday i was looking at people's noses on the subway. and i realized i had never really thought about noses. i mean you see them, and then you don't see them, you know? because [...]

Simile

Tue, 4 Nov 2003

Laura: I don't have any more space to put all my library books! Jeff: I think putting you in a library is like leaving a heroin addict alone in the evidence room. 'Nuff said.

Stripes

Thu, 30 Oct 2003

This afternoon when I walked out of the Service Center, there was a freshly-painted white crosswalk across the mouth of the parking lot over to the (also recently laid) path on the other side. Next to the crosswalk was a van labelled Joe's Parking Lot Services (or something like that) with said services listed below, [...]

Monday

Tue, 14 Oct 2003

Yesterday was an absolutely awful day. I won't go into all of it, but by the end of the day, when I was hungry and tired, and my planned source of food completely failed me, I almost cried. So I went to see Jeff, and there I did cry. So he took care of heating [...]
