Not wanting any nasty surprises, I asked my new employer if there's a policy about blogs. The reply was that there isn't a specific policy but that the company prefers to remain anonymous in all publications unless authorized by their marketing department. I am not to mention their name or specifics about the company, employee [...]

Employment ho!
Today I received (and have accepted) a job offer, by phone, from a company I have been calling ACME (and will continue to do so because I am superstitious like Dorothea). More later; I just wanted to share the good news.

Adios KCLS
It occurs to me that I forgot to mention on this blog that I am now unemployed and have been for a few weeks. My temporary-but-extended-umpteen-times employment at KCLS ended on July 31. I was not terribly happy about leaving, but like all changes, it has its advantages. For example, I now have more time [...]

Keeping my mouth almost shut
For the first time, I am really having to restrain myself from posting a little story about work. It's hilarious, and I think 99% of the world would think it very funny too, but that last 1% would throw a screaming fit. And then the earth would explode, and it would be my fault, and [...]

Week 2
Work is still Interesting. There is good news, however; it seems I can expect to be employed for the foreseeable future, I think. At least a few months of that time will be 69 hours per month rather than full-time, and I still haven't got benefits. On the other hand, right now 69 hours is [...]

Exciting times
If I said that this week at work was interesting and that we put in long hours, that would be an understatement almost as massive as Dubya allowing that we're having a couple of problems in Iraq. I'm not sure how much I can say about it on a public blog, though. We went live [...]

On hold
Sorry I haven't blogged in a week and a half; life has rather been consumed by the migration. I'll poke my head up again in a couple of days, when circulation is live and we're not all completely swamped.

Interesting times
Yesterday, just as I was leaving work, someone killed inetd on the Dynix server. (I won't tell you who did it, but it wasn't me. I don't even have that kind of access.) Apparently this has happened before, and it's not exactly a catastrophe, in that it's a fixable problem that doesn't destroy anything. It [...]

Small successes
Today Karen and I conducted the first successful test of the new telephone notification system. That is, it was the first test, and it happened to be successful. It was kind of silly that I hadn't figured out beforehand how to turn on the notices, but really it was just that I hadn't asked Karen [...]

Mountain day!
Mountain Day is Mount Holyoke's fall floating holiday. No one but the President of the College knows when it's going to be; everyone else wakes up one morning, and class is cancelled. It is a day of great rejoicing. Today is Mountain Day. I'm happy for them... but I still have to go to work. [...]
