When is spam a good thing? It's in my support queue and I thought it was something I'd have to fix (not that I have overwhelming amounts of time these days), and instead I can just delete it!

Glad I’m not Dilbert
Yesterday was a good day, because the two small but important meetings that I had initiated (and led) were effective in accomplishing their purpose, which was for the Inter-Library Loan manager (in the one meeting) and the Acquisitions and Cataloging managers (in the other) to understand what they're going to be doing during a certain [...]

Hardware adventures, or, Some things are too good not to blog
Yesterday morning I stuck a Death Cab for Cutie CD in my work computer's CD drive and listened to it for most of the day. Apparently the computer liked it too, because when I tried to eject it and take it home, it would most emphatically not eject. After some heated combat I retreated to [...]

Sleep is good
Jeff wasn't home when I arrived from work at 6pm, so I lay down for a nap and didn't wake up until he came back three hours later. This is good, because I obviously needed it. It's also bad, because now I can't get back to sleep! The past two days have been especially hard, [...]

Frigging Monday
I've been at work for just over an hour, awake for just over 3 hours, and already today is pretty dismal. There's nothing quite like coming in on a Monday morning and discovering that I've buggered something up royally the week before.

9 to 5
I haven't been writing much lately, because pretty much all I've been doing is working. This is my first roughly full-time week, which might be kind of exciting except that all it means is that I do the same things I've been doing, just more hours per week. Next week the whole bibliographic database will [...]

I (still) love my job
Today was great fun. Instead of work this morning, I had a skills assessment for the KCLS public services employment pool. I won't go into the details, but it involved a lot of pretending to be a librarian greeting patrons, helping them with reference questions, performing reader's advisory, and giving a short booktalk. I was [...]

Getting a reputation
Every other Wednesday is System Migration Project Meeting Day at KCLS. These meetings have been happening since the spring, but I wasn't able to attend them until June because I had class on Wednesday afternoons. I started going to the meetings as soon as I could, and I would go so far as to say [...]

Time
I have a bit of a problem. See, now that I'm out of school, and work is my only major time commitment (well, besides miscellaneous cooking and housework), I would really like to spend a lot of time working on the things that need to be done. On the other hand, I'm only authorized for [...]

On the (high) heels of success
I had a really good job interview yesterday at KCLS. The interview was for the reference librarian job pool, and although it consisted of two 45-minute interviews, it was pretty relaxed. I had really nice conversations with one of the associate directors and a branch manager, and I think I got across what I wanted [...]
