This morning I was supposed to have a status review meeting with Kathy, but it turned out to be a surprise graduation party. It wasn't actually much of a surprise since she announced it on the ITS staff list, but I don't think the fête lost anything at all by the leak. There were lots [...]

Documentation is like…
I've realized that I know nothing about writing documentation. That is, I know nothing about writing documentation for anyone but myself. I guess I kind of knew this before, but it really came home to me a few weeks ago when I was trying to write up the things that are important to know about [...]

An intern by any other name
I've got this weird attitude about my job title. Formally I'm the ITS Student Intern, but I don't act like an intern. Or maybe I do, because this is the only real internship I've ever had (barring the very short time I spent at the Museum der Arbeit in Hamburg, where I talked to everyone [...]

Knock knock
Well, I didn't get the SPL job. I sent HR an email on Tuesday saying Hey I'm still interested, where are you in the process? and didn't hear anything until this morning when I picked up a message on my voice mail at work. I was kind of surprised since I gave them my cell [...]

Reflections
Last Thursday was the one-year anniversary of my first day of work at KCLS. I don't want to bore anyone with tales of Oh, when I were a wee intern, but I think it's really remarkable to look back on the blog entry about my first day of work and to realize how much I've [...]

No thank you, I’m quite insane enough already
I've been monitoring job descriptions lately, and this one at Tacoma Community College seems absolutely schizophrenic. I was considering applying for it until I realized that it requires managing three separate library departments, including information technology and cataloging, as well as creating and maintaining databases and working regular shifts at the reference desk. Excuse me?

One year
According to Kathy, today is the one-year anniversary of KCLS hiring me. This is in spite of the fact that I didn't find out that they had offered me the job until a week later. Some dates:

Interview fu
Well, I had my interview today, and it was surprisingly painless. It was longer than any interview I've ever had before, but it felt very fast, and I think I answered the questions well. Now I've just got to wait until they get back to me. In case you're wondering, yes, I was nervous. My [...]

Crossing my fingers
This morning I emailed my resume and cover letter for a job I really want at SPL. The Systems Analyst for Library Applications/Databases position is almost exactly what I'm already doing, except full time and a little more per hour. I think it couldn't be better tailored for me right now, and I will be [...]

Killer app
As I was procrastinating this evening, I looked over my application for my current job and realized two things. First of all, I'm not surprised that I got the job, because that was a really fantastic application. (All those failed applications were great for forcing me to learn self-promotion.) Secondly, I've done and learned the [...]
